Environmental Injustice & Healthy Relationships Mobile Apps

Over a period of six weeks, students from Dreamyard and The Point in conjunction with the Cooper-Hewitt Design Museum and Iridescent Learning have worked to develop, design and pitch mobile applications to solve unaddressed problems in the Bronx.  A total of four apps were built to address the issues of environmental injustice and healthy relationships.

The first group with Melanie Mangual, Luis Figueroa and Rafier German built an app relating to healthy relationships.  This app provides:

1) Directions to local clinics.
2) A question and answer game used to increase awareness of common relationship issues.
3) Fun facts about relationships.

The second group with Lee Rodriguez, Elaine Santos and Wesly Federico developed an environmental injustice app that allows user to voice their opinion to their local city officials.  This app:

1) Provides a list of volunteer opportunities for residents based on your zip code.
2) Allows users to easily contact borough officials by selecting their borough.

The third group with Ashley Galarza, Ramon Vidal, Guessan Effy and Kendrick Martinez created an app to teach people how to build their own urban farms.  It provides:

1) A tutorial on how to start your own urban farm.
2) Recipes using food you can grow.
3) Local urban farms and more recipes.

The fourth group with Samantha Serrano, Erika Mounier, Steven Herrera, Omar Rodriguez, Victor Davila, Darius Davis, Sharice Jones, Taniah Horton and Ashley Figueroa created a "Healthy Start" app relating to environmental injustice issue.  This app:

1) Educates users about feel good foods, foods that nourish and provide nutritional value.
2) Provides a healthy eating options along with nutrition facts.
3) Lists local gardens with maps.
4) Lists local cooking classes with maps.
